Concrete
Cement is a material generated from a mixture enriched with carefully selected aggregates and additives. It is an “evolved cement”, a compound with high technical and structural performance, even when used in very thin layers. It is processed by casting in molds, allowing for a very high level of detail and high wear resistance. Cement has a silky surface suitable for both outdoor and indoor applications.
Despite the surface being treated with finishes that make it water-repellent and cleanable, it remains a natural material with artisanal construction techniques and consequently with uncontrollable porosity and color variations during production. Cement products exhibit surface blowholes that are generated during the casting of the material into the mold, dispersing randomly on the surface, especially on vertical sections. These cavities, both outdoors and indoors, can fill with water/moisture, creating darker stains until they dry out.
The coloring of Cement is achieved by adding iron oxides to the mix. The preparation of the color and the mixture is an artisanal process, influenced by seasonal hygrometric and climatic characteristics, which can therefore create variations and non-uniformities. In larger and structurally stressed components, stainless steel fibers are added to the mix, which may emerge and be visible on the surface.
Maintenance
For daily maintenance it is sufficient to clean the surface with soap water or common detergents. The surface has a good resistance to stains and chemical agents, nonetheless some substances like ink, cosmetics and colorations could leave some stains which have to be removed with the help of abrasive soap, acid or solvent containing soaps (depending on the staining substance), and a sponge. Jodine tincture stains the surface. Avoid contact with acetone and trichlorethylene.
